Stories Can Lead to Action

Indaba was born out of a desire to provide an opportunity for the shoreline community to explore topics related to race and racism. As a result, the Indaba Workshop Series of 8 sessions was designed to help participants answer the question, “But, What can I do about racism?”

We will learn through listening to other’s stories, exploring our own stories and discussing their impact. Deep listening can unlock our assumptions and beliefs about race and racism, and shine a light on the untruths that live within our everyday assumptions and actions.

This process helps us to see where our own core beliefs, words and actions are aligned and where they need adjusting. Learning together and teaching one another to live in alignment, as an intimate supportive community, is the essence of Indaba. Our goal is to cultivate personal responsibility to effect change. It may be change of heart, it may be change of practice or policy. What matters is change. That is the purpose and experience of the Indaba Workshop.

“When the story ends and the tellers voice is silenced,
the bridge between teller and listener remains…”
– Elaine Blanchard
Indaba library cohort
